ISLAND ferry company Caledonian MacBrayne are hopeful that the MV Isle of Lewis will resume service on the Ullapool-Stornoway run on Wednesday (January 5).
CalMac vessel the MV Lord of the Isles has been covering the service since Hogmanay, after a technical fault forced the Isle of Lewis to limp into Stornoway harbour on only one engine at lunchtime on Friday (December 31, 2010).
The slower vessel undertook two crossings on Sunday (January 1) instead on the normal single journey.
Confirming a fault with one of the engines on the MV Isle of Lewis, a spokesperson for CalMac said yesterday: “The current situation is that engineers have been working on a fault with one of the engines and are now waiting for a spare part.
“In order to save time she will relocate to Ullapool tomorrow and in the meantime Lord of the Isles will provide cover.
“We are hopeful Isle of Lewis will resume service on Wednesday,” he added.
