He met with Royal Mail staff before declaring the new facility at 2 Rigs Road, Stornoway, open by unveiling a commemorative plaque
The delivery office relocated from temporary accommodation in Rigs Road in April, which had been their home since a fire in November 2007 destroyed the original premises at Sandwick Road.
Mr MacNeil said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to perform the official opening of the new delivery office at Stornoway. This is a tremendous facility and proves Royal Mail’s commitment to these islands. The Royal Mail is an organisation that is very close to my heart as my late father was a postman in Barra for many years.”
Eddie MacKenzie, Royal Mail’s Islands Manager added: “Royal Mail postal services are extremely important to the community. The new location ensures a more pleasant environment for staff and customers alike. We would like to thank our customers for all the support they have shown us during this period.
“The facilities and service that we provide to our customers is of paramount importance and we are confident that our customers will benefit, in the longer term, by this change.”
