Portree Royal National Lifeboat Institution All Weather Lifeboat 14-16, Stanley Watson Barker was called out by the owner of a sheep dog, Jan, which became trapped at the bottom of a very steep gully on the Isle of Raasay.

The Portree Lifeboat was called at 11:46 hours on Wednesday 19 February 2014, to rescue a sheep dog called Jan. The owner was taking a ram back to the family croft on the Isle of Raasay when his collie, Jan, became trapped at the bottom of a very steep sided gully. He was unable to climb down and could not go into the water as the surging tide was too strong. He called for assistance and the Portree Lifeboat was tasked.

The Lifeboat used it’s dingy, XP-35, with Crew, Brian Wells and George Burns to effect the rescue. The dog was located and taken on board XP-35 then returned to the owner.

Hamish Corrigall, RNLI Coxswain for Portree RNLI Lifeboat, says: “The dog owner made the sensible decision which made the outcome more satisfying.”
