The island is of key importance to many bird populations, not least the 50,000-plus pairs of puffins that breed there every summer.

It is designated as a European Special Protection Area for breeding seabirds, and a Special Area of Conservation to protect its seals and the rocky underwater reefs around the island.

Meanwhile Leo still keeps close contact with his home town, and will be taking -part in the Line Gallery’s annual postcards competition at 238 High Street, Linlithgow, which opens on Saturday, October 2i9 and runs until November 22.

More of his work can be seen at his Scotrail-supported Scotland by Rail sketching explorations on his blog at www.landscapeartnaturebirds.blogspot.com and on his website at www.leodufeu.co.uk
