After a year which saw the Lewis Pipe Band gain 2 second place trophies at both the European and World Pipe Band Championships, a new grade beckons as they secure promotion to Grade 3A.
In just four years, the band have competed in just seven competitions, gaining six trophies and three promotions overall. A phenomenal achievement for all involved.
The Western Isles have a rich history in producing great musicians and pipers, and the Band are now establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with on pipe band circuit, almost 110 years after the band was formed in 1904. The commitment and discipline of the band members has been rewarded with silverware and recognition, and are now preparing hard for their step up to their new grade to play against hardened and experienced competitors.
Pipe Major Peter Mackay said of the promotion, “This is an incredible achievement, words can’t describe how delighted I am to lead the band into Grade 3A. I can’t thank everyone in the band enough for all their hard work and dedication.
“The effort begins now as we prepare for next year and I’d like to encourage any players out there to come along to our practice and be part of the band for next year.”
The band is now on the lookout for new members to join for the 2016 season, which will hopefully see them compete in 3 major championships. Anyone wishing to join should get in touch via the Band website or Facebook page.
The Band would like to thank their sponsors for 2015, O’Mac Construction, Lewis Wind Power, Calmax Construction and Lochs Motor Transport, as without the support of them and the public, none of these achievements would be possible.
