NHS Highland Dental Nurse Karen MacKay has recently been awarded Dental Nurse of the year following completion of the SVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing.
Karen, who is 26 and from the Isle of Lewis, completed her training in the NHS Highland dental clinic based at the Ian Charles Dental Unit in Grantown. She now works at the Culloden Dental Clinic.
She said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my training in Grantown. I worked with a really great team. They were very welcoming and so friendly, I learned so much during my time there.
“I’m surprised but absolutely thrilled at the award. I really enjoy my job not only the clinical side of what I do, which is so rewarding, but getting to meet different people every day, really does add to your day.”
Karen’s SVQ assessor Alison MacLeod is delighted that Karen’s hard work has been recognised in this way.
She said: “Karen was an obvious candidate. She was outstanding in all aspects of the SVQ level 3 in Dental Nursing. She came across as a very enthusiastic student, highly organised, with great people skills and showed an exceptionally high quality of clinical skills.”
Karen was presented with a Quaich by Hazel Carroll from Dental Directory who sponsor the annual award.
