Following a successful grant application to the Heritage Lottery Fund under the Parks for People programme, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the Stornoway Trust are developing detailed plans for restoring and improving the Lews Castle Grounds and Volunteering is an important part of the project.
As part of this exciting project, consultation events with stakeholders and users of the grounds will take place over the next few months. A series of events will be held between February and May 2014 and will be facilitated by consultant Paul Fraser Webb. The events should last between 1.5 – 2 hours.
The first consultation event will take place on 13th February. There is an opportunity for volunteers to support Paul in facilitating these.
Volunteers will receive training in facilitation skills in preparation for the events and will get the chance to practice their new skills in a real life situation shortly after the training. Facilitation training for volunteers will be held on Thursday 6 February between 4.00pm to 5.30pm in Stornoway. Topics covered will include: the purpose of stakeholder events; questioning styles and working with different personality types. These skills can be used in other situations and can help volunteers involved in developing projects for organisations across the islands. If you are interested in getting involved in this unique opportunity, please contact the Volunteer Centre Western Isles on 01851 700366; email firstname.lastname@example.org or call in to 95 Cromwell Street, Stornoway.
