The Lews Castle Project Board met yesterday (Thursday) to discuss the future of work on Phase 1 of the Lews Castle Project following the main contractors, Patton, going into administration, and to consider all the available legal options to ensure completion of the work.
The Comhairle is pressing the Administrators for information as to whether they are able to continue the contract, and has asked formally that this be provided no later than next Thursday, 21 November.
In the event of the administrators indicating that they will not continue the £2m contract, alternative plans are being drawn up.
Work on the outside works at the Castle is between 60-65 per cent complete.
The Comhairle is proceeding with the evaluation of tenders on the main works contract with an award expected to be made in early December.
