Lifeboat launch to aid fishing boat

Stornoway RNLI launched yesterday, Wednesday June 29th, at 1147hours to the aid of a small fishing boat which had broken down.

The stricken vessel was situated at Rubha Uisinis, on the south east coast of Lewis, and was being dragged towards the shore by its anchor, which was not holding.

The fishing boat was around 20m from the cliff shore when the RNLI lifeboat arrived on scene and a tow line was established between the two vessels.

The ‘Tom Sanderson’ lifeboat then towed the casualty to the safety of Eishken before returning to berth at Stornoway harbour at 1515hours.
