Loganair unveils student fare package

FLYBE franchise partner, Loganair, has launched a newly revamped student fare offer across its Scottish network.

The airline has designed a fare to create enhanced flexibility for students travelling back and forward to university, while offering extra baggage and discounted fares at short-notice.

Students and passengers with a Young Scot Card can now carry a total of 40kg of baggage free of charge, doubling Loganair’s standard 20kg allowance.

Discounted fares will remain on offer closer to the date of departure and customers will be able to make one amendment to the return part of their itinerary as part of the ticket.

Fares are open to all students aged between 12 and 25 inclusive who are enrolled in a full-time, vocational, technical or nursing training courses. They are also available to Young Scot Card holders.

Passengers who are eligible for the Air Discount Scheme (ADS) can also combine this saving into bookings, offering further price reductions.

Loganair has launched a ‘Student Fare and Flight Finder’ portal on its website to assist the search for different travel options and fares can be booked via the airline’s call centre.

The fare was developed with input from Shetland members of the Scottish Youth Parliament, an organisation which Loganair has been supporting with reduced travel options since 2012.

Roy Bogle, Loganair’s Director of Revenue and Scheduling, said: “Our student fare package is tailor made to suit the needs of students studying on the Scottish mainland.

“We’re aware that people at university may need to return home at short notice or arrange travel patterns around exam schedules so we’re allowing maximum flexibility on their bookings.

“Discounted fares will also be available and each ticket includes the option to make one date amendment if an itinerary needs to change.

“The importance of extra baggage was highlighted and we’ve built that into the new offering.

“The airline has worked closely with the Shetland members of the Scottish Youth Parliament for a number of years and these MSYP’s have helped provide guidance to create the fare package.”

The Scottish Youth Parliament is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. Its members are elected every two years and range in age from 14 to 25.

Kaylee Mouat, MSYP for Shetland said: “This fare will be extremely useful for students studying off the islands.

“It was a pleasure to work alongside Loganair to help create the fare, providing insight from young people who regularly fly with the airline.

“Any support which helps school leavers travel to the mainland to attend university is valuable and this fare will have a lasting impact for students from our island communities.”

In September 2015 Loganair introduced a compassionate travel policy on its 19 Scottish routes to give eligible customers access to a 50 per cent discounted fare in times of a family emergency.

The compassionate fare offers reduced rate flights and flexibility to customers who need to make bookings at short notice on compassionate grounds such as bereavement or an unexpected critical medical emergency.

The ‘Student Fare and Flight Finder’ can be found online and fares can be booked by calling Loganair’s call centre on 0344 800 2855.

Student fares need to be supported by an official document from the educational establishment, a student union or Young Scot Card.
