Newton Faulkner has been announced as the Saturday night headliner for this year’s ninth outing of Loopallu. He will join Friday night headliners The Enemy at the festival.
Known for his unique virtuosity guitar playing style, Brit-nominated artist Newton Faulkner’s debut number 1 album ‘Hand Built by Robots’ (2007) was an instant classic and contained the breathtaking single ‘Dream Catch Me’.
After relentless touring, more success followed with his gold-selling second album ‘Rebuilt By Humans’ debuting at number three in the official charts and storming straight in at the top spot on the iTunes chart.
His 4th studio album ‘Studio Zoo’ is out 26th August 2013 and made history by being filmed ‘Truman Show’ style during the entire recording process, with star guests like Ted Dwayne (Mumford & Sons) and Janet Devlin (X Factor) helping on the way.
The process featured unseen levels of fan interaction and lifted the veil on the usually hidden world of recording.
Also making an appearance over the weekend are fast rising London based band The Temperance Movement. Their own brand of soulful blues rock is seeing sold out venues across the country and will no doubt raise the roof of the Loopallu Big Top.
Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire join the Friday line up in support of their debut self titled album which is due out on the 2nd September. Early reviews already cite it as a possible album of the year.
Recent Universal-Islands signings The Ruen Brothers whose brand of 60’s beat music is creating big waves and gaining airplay throughout the UK will make their Loopallu debut, as does actor turned singer songwriter Laurence Fox (star of ITV’s Lewis).
In association with goNorth, Loopallu is also proud to unveil some of Scotlands next big stars in the shape of buzz electronic act Prides, Glasgow’s Blood Relatives (previously Kitty the Lion) and Fake Major.
“We are delighted to be closing this year’s Festival Tour at Loopallu and continuing our long-standing relationship with the event”, said goNORTH Director Amanda Millen. ”Loopallu consistently delivers an exciting and diverse line up of emerging and established acts, and is a fantastic platform for our artists to develop their audience”.
Final additions for the moment are firm festival favourites The Vatersay Boys and the set to be festival favourites of the future, retro 60s act The New Picadillys.
These all join previously announced artists, eighties 2-Tone legends The Beat, folk star and former Idlewild frontman Roddt Woomble, and alt.folk-rock band The Moulettes.
Loopallu takes place in the west coast village of Ullapool on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st of September 2013 and doubles the population of the village for the weekend.
As well as the usual eclectic line up of acts appearing at the festival big top and the fringe events after hours in the village’s pubs, the festival will again provide a selection of fine food and drink from around the Highlands as well as the famous warm Ullapool welcome.
Tickets for this year are priced at £65 for weekend tickets and £80 for weekend and camping. Campervan tickets are now sold out.
Children aged between 6 and 12 are £10 for the weekend, and under 5’s are free. (Anyone aged 16 and under need to be accompanied by an adult at all times)
