An Lanntair are working with London based theatre production company Fuel Theatre/Uninvited Guests to bring an interactive theatre project to Stornoway.

The project, called Love Letters Straight from your Heart, is an interactive theatre production aimed at older audiences as part of the Luminate Festival.

They are looking for the local community to become involved and contribute to the project which will take place in Grianan on October 8th.

Love Letters Straight From Your Heart is an intimate performance for 40 people, which combines music and text chosen and written by the audience to create an event which is uniquely personal to those in the room.

Using elements of a wedding reception crossed with a radio dedication show, the audience become part of a temporary community in which there is bubbly, toasts and dancing.

Uninvited Guests stage an event that is somewhere between a wedding reception, a wake and a radio dedication show. Audience members speak of their own and other’s loves - deep, passionate, ambivalent and unrequited - and dedicate songs to them.

Because the show features music dedications from the audience members the music will change with every show and vary in style.

Love Letters is suitable for a wide ranging audience. Due to the personal nature of the production, each audience member will take something special from the show. It will be a rewarding experience for those who take the time to write a dedication. They choose to be named or remain anonymous.

Love Letters is suitable for a general audience. However, this tour has a particular focus on elderly audiences at locations in the Highlands and Islands. The tour is supported by Luminate, Scotland’s creative ageing festival. At these venues will be a free workshop to engage the audience with the concept of the piece. Luminate will create a comfortable and safe environment where the audience can work with the performers to write dedications that will be included in the show over tea and biscuits.

On the night there is dancing and the audience is offered a glass of bubbly as they enter the space.

Uninvited Guests have been making entertaining and provocative performance since 1998. They have created work in various contexts, focusing mainly on performance but also producing installation and digital media.

Love Letters Straight From Your Heart remains their most successful show to date, which ran at the South bank Centre over Valentine’s Day 2012 & 2013.

Uninvited Guests are Jessica Hoffmann (co-founder, performer), Paul Clark (co-founder, director and Bristol University Lecturer in performance) and Richard Duty (co-artistic director, performer and Senior Producer at Battersea Arts Centre). The cast of Love Letters are Malcolm Hamilton and Jessica Macdonald.

Love Letters From Your Heart relies on the submission of at least 7 dedications prior to the performance, ideally at least one week before.

Audience members are encouraged to book places as soon as possible.

A dedication can be submitted via email where more information about the workshop can be given:
