M73 juntion 3A closed this weekend

Motorists are being advised that the M74 Junction 3A at Daldowie will be closed this weekend and a subsequent three weekends, from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.

The weekends affected are: Phase 1 – North Roundabout: 29 July – 01 August; Phase 2 – South Roundabout

12 – 15 August and 26 – 29 August.

These traffic restrictions are required to carry out improvements to the existing roundabout and construct a new motorway on-slip to the M73 northbound from Daldowie as part of the M8, M73, M74 Motorway Improvements Project.

During Phase 1, work will be carried out on the roundabout to the north of the junction with four-way traffic signals in operation. As a result, there will be no access to, or from, the motorway network via (A721/A74) Hamilton Road (Black Bear roundabout) from Friday evening until Monday morning. This includes the closure of the M74 north and southbound off-slips, and the M73 southbound off-slip link road to Daldowie.

During Phase 1, the A721 will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic lights, while access to Daldowie Crematorium and the surrounding Daldowie estate will only be possible via the M74 northbound off-slip.

Phase 2 weekend closures will involve works to the roundabout at the south of Daldowie Junction, at the entrance to the crematorium. As a result, the M74 northbound off and on-slip roads, and the M73 southbound link road to Daldowie will be closed.

During Phase 2, two-way traffic signals will be in operation allowing single lane running across the M74 overbridge providing access from Daldowie estate to the A721/A74.

Road users are advised to follow the signed diversion routes and allow extra time for their journeys. Pedestrian access across the M74 overbridge will be maintained for the duration of the works.

In order to minimise disruption as far as possible, Scottish Roads Partnership has scheduled these works over the weekend, with operations planned 24/7.

Further works at Daldowie Junction are anticipated in the coming months, therefore road users are advised to routinely check the Transport Scotland website and the Traffic Scotland website for live updates: www.transportscotland.gov.uk and www.trafficscotland.org
