Man dies in North Uist road accident

Well-known North Uist man Ivan MacDonald was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning after he was hit by a car while walking home.

About 0145 hours on Sunday a one vehicle Road Traffic Collision occurred on the A865 Clachan to Carinish Road approximately 200 meters north of Carinish Village Hall, North Uist involving a black Renault Clio motor car and a pedestrian.

Unfortunately as a result of the collision Mr MacDonald died of his injuries. The road remained closed until 1520 hours whilst enquiries were carried out by officers of Police Scotland N Divisional Road Policing Unit.

Ivan Macdonald (33) was a well known piper and crofter from the village of Baleshare.

Police Scotland are appealing for anyone with any information regarding the collision who has not spoken to the Police to contact them on telephone number 101 or speak to any police officer.
