The Comhairle’s Community Gateway team – an integral part of the Economic Development service - are to host a series of ‘Meet the Funder’ events across the Outer Hebrides later this month.
Three days have been earmarked whereby representatives of a range of local and national funding-bodies will meet with individuals and groups with ideas for community-based projects, to discuss their funding aspirations.
‘Meet the Funder’ events will be held on 22nd May in Barvas and Brue Community Centre; 23rd May in Balivanich Community Centre; and 24th May in Castlebay Community Centre.
Calum Iain MacIver, Director of Development at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said: “Over recent years the Comhairle has been helping to regenerate communities with a range of Capital Grant schemes for community-based projects - ensuring that contractors throughout the islands have work that can benefit their local communities.
“The Comhairle has also approved funding for over 130 community projects across the islands over the past four years. That investment has helped to lever additional external funding of approximately £12m into the local economy during this period.”
Major organisations such as the BIG Lottery, Heritage Lottery Fund and Children In Need will be represented at ‘Meet the Funder’ days. These organisations have assisted with major projects-of-scale across the Outer Hebrides over recent years, in addition to providing equipment and support to many local community initiatives.
“A range of Comhairle capital grant schemes for community groups will also be highlighted at the events, and Comhairle staff will be on-hand for advice on the day.
Also confirmed as attending are: Community Energy Scotland; Scottish Community Foundation; Keep Scotland Beautiful; SGRPID; Highland & Islands Enterprise; Business Gateway; the Forestry Commission; and a range of other support agencies such as Community Ownership Support Scotland and Co-Cheangal Innse Gall.
‘Meet the Funder’ events are open to the public from midday until 7pm on each evening. Refreshments will be provided and all are invited and welcome to attend!
