Member of Parliament for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Angus MacNeil, has welcomed support from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in regards to the Refugee crisis.
In a letter to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Councillor Angus Campbell confirmed that the council fully supports the position of the Scottish Government and COSLA in seeking to persuade the UK Government that the contribution of the UK to the European refugee crisis needs to be enhanced.
Commenting Angus MacNeil MP said:
“What we have witnessed over recent days has been heart-breaking and urgent action is required.
“A high number of constituents have been in touch with me who are appalled at the lack of support from the UK government.
“I am pleased to see Comhairle nan Eilean Siar extending the hand of friendship and offering to help with this humanitarian crisis, mirroring the reaction we are seeing across Scotland, Iceland, Ireland and many other countries.”
