Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, David Stewart, is seeking further answers over Scottish Government and CalMac plans for a Lochboisdale to Mallaig ferry service.
Mr Stewart revealed through a Parliamentary question that the Transport Minister has received no formal proposal from CalMac for a limited two-day-per week ferry service between Lochboisdale and Mallaig; however discussions have taken place in relation to the implementation of the Scottish Ferry Services Plan, including the further consideration of the case for the Lochboisdale to Mallaig service.
Mr Stewart has now asked a follow up Parliamentary question asking whether the Scottish Government will provide information regarding the discussions that have taken place.
Commenting, Mr Stewart said: “I would cautiously welcome this development and think it is encouraging to learn these discussions have taken place.
“It is however important that we see the detail of what has actually been discussed, and I eagerly anticipate a response from the Minister.
“Hopefully this will be good news for the people of South Uist.”
