MSP seeks clarity over Marine Harvest job losses

Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan has contacted Marine Harvest to seek clarity about how many job losses they are proposing amongst their employees in the Western Isles.

The move follows the news that up to 100 jobs, from its 650 strong workforce across Scotland, are likely to be shed between sites in Argyll, Inverness-shire and the islands.

Mr Allan commented: “Needless to say, Marine Harvest’s announcement today about job losses is unhappy news for many families across the west coast of Scotland. The company have given assurances about their future operation, but they must now also clarify what they are proposing and they must say what the impact is going to be in the Western Isles.

“I have been seeking this information from the company today, who say that they will be able to supply further details next week.

“I have now sought a meeting with the company and asked them to facilitate meetings with the workforce.”
