The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland is coming to Stornoway and Benbecula this weekend as part of its outreach programme for 2012.
The programme will see NYPBoS members help teach and collaborate with other young pipers and drummers by conducting workshops and an evening performance. It should be a fantastic opportunity for local pipers and drummers to meet other young musicians from around the country.
There will be workshops during the day and the band will also be in concert on Friday night in Stornoway and Sunday night in South Uist.
Workshops will take place at the Nicolson Institute on Saturday between 10am and 4pm and on Sunday at St Peter’s Hall from 10am to 4pm.
Pipers are recommended to bring along their practice chanter and bagpipes. If you do not have a full set of pipes yet that is fine as well as long as you have a practice chanter. NYPBoS will provide music packs for the day but people are also free to bring along their own music.
Drummers are recommended to bring along their own snare, tenor or bass sticks and practice pads as well as their drum if possible as there are only limited numbers available.
All attendees are asked to bring with them a packed lunch to have at lunch time for both workshops.
