COMMUNITY Learning Hebrides, run by the Community Education Department of the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, is running an initial programme of ten-week community learning classes.

Beginning the week Monday September 10th, this is a new feature of the Council’s community learning provision and will be followed by the main winter programme of classes and workshops which start after the October holidays.

Community Education Officer Graeme Miller explained: “We have had feedback from learners that six-weeks learning is not enough for some classes and we are therefore providing an additional programme of ten-week classes starting in September to allow more sustained learning where appropriate.”

Classes being advertised in the programme include Beginners Gaelic Conversation; Creative Textiles; Furniture Restoration; Patchwork for Beginnings; and Basic Computing.

These will be held in community venues in Uig, Barvas, Point, Back and Stornoway.

More information on the programme can be found on the council website at

and to register for a class, learners can phone the Hotline (01851) 822716 which will open on Wednesday, August 29th.
