New era for Lewis post offices as two new sites replace Bayhead

But while the town will say goodbye to the long established post office site they will benefit with the opening of two new post offices on opposite ends of the town.

A new style post office service will be offered at Campbell’s Filling Station on Cannery Road from February 28, while a similar service will be provided at the Cearns Shop from March 14 – the same day the Bayhead site closes down.

The new services will be provided at Post Office serving points in the stores, where the Post Office terminals will sit alongside the retail tills. As with any other branch, robust security procedures are in place, anyone handling Post Office transactions, including new staff, will be fully trained on all operational and service issues, including customer privacy to ensure they meet Post Office standards.

The Cearns branch will be open from 9am – 9pm Monday to Saturday offering an extra 26 hours of Post Office service every week.

The Newton branch will be open 7am – 11pm offering an extra 50 hours of Post Office service every week.

The two branches would offer a total of an extra 76 hours of Post Office service a week, giving customers more choice of times to visit.

The current Bayhead Post Office at Matheson Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2LB, will close at 1pm on Tuesday 14 March.
