Stornoway Port Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of Captain Peter Read to the position of Harbour Master.

Lewis-born Captain Read was educated at the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway and Glasgow Nautical College. He commenced his nautical career on gas carriers, super tankers and an ice breaker during his cadetship then moved to serve on a UK Fisheries Protection vessel before settling into a career in superyachts. For the past 13 years Captain Read has been in command of, or in command team of, some of the World’s finest superyachts

Captain Read joins the Port Authority at a time of development which may lead to major growth for the port. Commenting on his appointment Captain Read said “It’s a great honour to be given this opportunity by the Port Authority. At a time of change in marine trade, fishing and leisure, they’ve shown real ambition with their plans for sustainable development which will be of huge benefit to the islands. I’m happy to be coming home as part of it.”

Chief Executive of the Port Authority, Jane Maciver, commented “We were fortunate to have a high quality field of candidates who applied for the post and we are delighted that Captain Read has accepted the position. We look forward to welcoming him to the team and introducing him to our stakeholders.”

Captain Read is currently at sea and will take up his new role on his return in early September.
