New upper floor at Bethesda is officially opened

From an empty shell to a fully functioning respite unit in the space of four short months, this was the hard won achievement being celebrated at Bethesda Care Home in Stornoway this afternoon (Tuesday), as the upper floor wing of the care home was officially opened.

The unit which provides nine en-suite bedrooms was opened by Mary Ann Lamont on behalf of the family of Mary Anne Trump Barry, who made a substantial donation in order that the new floor wing could be built.

Talking about that gesture, at the opening ceremony, Mary Ann Lamont said: “I’m very proud and delighted she has made this generous donation in memory of her mother who was a frequent visitor to the Islands.”

Following the official opening Bethesda General Manager Carol Somerville presented Mary Ann Lamont with a lovely bouquet of flowers and guests were invited to view one of the rooms which now provides respite accommodation.

Since its December opening the unit has already provided respite care for 123 people.
