North Uist community project wins Council funding

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has announced an award from its Community Capital Grant Fund (CCGF) to a community economic development project worth £135,000k in North Uist.

Grants totalling almost £60,000 were awarded to Grimsay Community Association also levering-in nearly £75k of additional external funding.

Cllr Alasdair Macleod, Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee said: “The Comhairle has supported a further CCGF project which delivers community economic growth and creates income generation opportunities for small businesses locally - with additional cultural and social benefit.”

A new Centre for Grimsay in North Uist is being created by the local Community Association.

The centre is a sustainable building providing local services and amenities to the community; and an economic, cultural and social hub for the island as a whole.

The Community Capital Grants Fund (CCGF) is administered by the Comhairle’s Regeneration Team - a function of the Economic Development service - which has been active in delivering significant economic development opportunities in local communities for over ten years.

The team is accessible across the Outer Hebrides to support properly-constituted groups with community projects that create opportunities with tangible local economic development outputs. As a result, since its 2013 launch, 26 organisations having been successful in securing Comhairle CCGF grant funding towards their community economic development projects.
