Another major milestone has been achieved on the Western Isles Schools Project.

At 1pm on 28 July 2011, on programme and on budget, the new Balivanich Primary School, achieved Service Availability and the new building was formally handed over by the main contractor FMP to the facilities management company FES FM who will now be responsible for maintaining the building and school grounds for the next 28 years.

Despite many challenges, most notably the loss of some principal sub-contractors in the supply chain who entered administration during the build programme, FMP have delivered the facility on time, to budget and to the required quality and performance thresholds.

Installation of the loose equipment and other items which remain the responsibility of the Comhairle will commence immediately to allow the new school to welcome the return of teaching staff on the 15th August and its first new intake of pupils on the 18th August 2011 for the start of the new academic year.
