OFT investigation drags on

The Office of Fair Trading has yet again extended the deadline for the outcome of an investigation into the distribution of road fuels in the Western Isles by GB Oils (now called Certas).

The subject matter of the investigation concerns the contractual arrangements for wholesale supply of road fuels in the Western Isles offered by GB Oils (where applicable trading under the name Scottish Fuels or through one of its group companies).

It is also looking into the rebates paid to filling stations in the Western Isles by GB Oils and any other payments that may have been made to filling station customers in the Western Isles by GB Oils.

In mid July last year the Gazette reported that the watch-dog had made a decision to proceed with the investigation - giving it time to carry out “further analysis” and continue to “gather” information.

In October the OFT again decided to continue with the investigation - estimating an ‘investigation outcome’ would be published in January 2014.

However the Gazette has now been informed this outcome has been pushed back by a further three months, bringing the new deadline date to March 2014.

This date is still an estimate, however it is expected the OFT will decide either to close the investigation or issue a statement of objections to GB Oils by this time.
