OHCG concerns about impact of air link reductions

The Outer Hebrides Commerce Group (OHCG), which represents business and communities across the islands, has written to Leader of the Comhairle to ask for a meeting about the impacts of the decision to reduce island air transportation links.

In the letter to Cllr Angus Campbell it states: “Our Members are very concerned about any reduction in air transportation links and we are also very exercised about the impending increases due to be imposed by the Scottish Government on all goods arriving and departing from the Islands.”

It continues: “We would like to meet with you as soon as possible so that we can make known to you our concerns about the proposed reduction to the inter-island air services and also to discuss matters relating to the haulage tax that is due next month.”

The Comhairle decided to stop substdings Barra/ Benbecula flights and reduced the number of Stornoway/ Benbecula after having to cut more than £4 million from the budget.
