‘Ollie the Collie’ took a break from Police operations to accompany handler PC Cameron Ross to conduct a presentation on Police Dogs and show off his drug detection skills during a display in the schools Playground.

‘Ollie’ was joined at Uig primary School by his new house mate ‘Harris the pup’ who is an 11 week old Golden retriever.

During March earlier this year, all primary schools within the Western Isles were asked to provide name suggestions for the new Police dog, which at the time was a black Labrador.

The Police received several hundred suggestions for the dog and Evelyn Hepworth-L’Estrange (P7, Uig Primary School) suggested the winning name ‘Bolt’. Unfortunately ‘Bolt’ was later discovered to have a potential hip problem and subsequently was returned to his previous owner in Grantown.

However ‘Ollie the Collie’ was keen to help out and with part funding from Outer Hebrides Alcohol and Drug Partnership ‘Ollie’ became the new Western Isles Police Dog.
