Thumbs up for a first class postal service

Royal Mail is asking people to show appreciation for their posties by giving them a thumbs up from a safe distance while they continue making their rounds during the pandemic.

The company says the gesture is also a reminder not to attempt to take parcels from postal workers, and will help ensure contact free delivery.

People are also encouraged to share thumbs up selfies on social media using the hashtag #ThumbsUpForYourPostie and picture templates are also available for children to decorate and put in their windows. These can be downloaded from here.

Royal Mail director Ricky McAulay said: “We know how much people like to say hi or have a chat with their postie on the doorstep.  During this time, we need to find new ways of staying connected whilst also protecting our communities. We hope that giving a thumbs up is a handy way of reminding people to keep a safe distance when we are out and about delivering the post.

“I would also like to thank our people for doing such a great job at this challenging time.”

Royal Mail has implemented a number of changes to its working practices, such as the contact free delivery method and halting the procedure of taking electronic signatures for package delivery.

It also has purchased £15 million worth of protective equipment and supplies.
