The Volunteer Centre Western Isles is marking Volunteers’ Week this year by holding an exhibition of photographs entitled ‘Volunteers in Action.’
Staff have collected photos from organisations around the islands and will have a display of over 100 images in Pointers Youth Cafe, North Beach, Stornoway for three days during Volunteers’ Week.
Volunteers’ Week is celebrated from 1st – 7th June and has the themes of Recognise, Reward and Recruit.
The exhibition aims to celebrate volunteering in its many roles, and has pictures of young and old volunteers in categories such as Care, Fundraising, Environment and Sports. For more ideas on how to celebrate the week with volunteers, please contact the local VC offices.
“When you see so many pictures of volunteers in one place it is positively inspiring,” said Kirsty Macdonald, joint manager of the Volunteer Centre Western Isles.
“Some pictures make you smile, others are very touching. All of them make you marvel at the sheer range of voluntary activity that goes on in the islands.
“We hope that many people will come and have a look, and enjoy one of the aspects of island life that is truly inspirational.”
The exhibition will be launched at 11am on Monday 1st June and will remain open for three days.
Opening hours are Monday 1st June 11am – 4pm; Tuesday 2nd June 1pm – 3.30pm; Wednesday 3rd June 11am – 4pm. The section on volunteers in sport will also be in the sports centre from Thursday 4th June to Monday 8th June.
