Police name man who died in Achiltibuie maritime incident

Police have confirmed the identity of the man who died in a maritime incident near Achiltibuie on Tuesday, May 13th.

Police received notification that HM Coastguard had been called to a maritime incident involving a fishing vessel near Tanera Beag, off the coast of the Summer Isles near Achiltibuie.

The man, who can now be named as Gary Daniel Forbes, 36, from Aultbea, was recovered from the water and flown by HM Coastguard helicopter Rescue 100 to the Western Isles Hospital. As a result of the incident the man sadly died.

Mr Forbes’ family have asked that their privacy be respected whilst they grieve at this most difficult time.

Police enquires are currently ongoing with assistance from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and HM Coastguard.

A report has been submitted to the Procuator Fiscal.
