Comhairle works with local artists to bring cèilidhs to Western Isles care homes

The Comhairle has worked with local artists to provide exclusive 30-minute weekly cèilidh footage to all care homes throughout the Western Isles in order to provide residents with some musical entertainment.

Following the success of the Covid Cèilidhs which have reached people all around the world, the Comhairle was keen to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the talented Western Isles musicians who have been performing weekly on the Comhairle Facebook page.

Christine MacCuish and Robin Cooke are among those who like listening to Iain ’Costello’ Maciver on the iPad while enjoying lunch, social distancing in place, with a nice glass of wine.

They both enjoy his concerts as he sings both Gaelic and English songs to meet all tastes.

Iain ‘Costello’ Maciver said: “Speaking as someone who has had a family member in a care home, I know first hand how vital it is for residents to have musical stimulus not just during the Covid pandemic but at all times.

“I hope these cèilidhs go some way to raising the spirits of both residents and staff alike.”
