Will Trump get his boots on?

Donald Trump will be the first US President eligible to play in Lewis football's oldest competition.

To be picked for the teams in the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup, players, or their parents, must have been born in a rural village on the island.

As well as being the 45th President of the USA, Trump’s most important claim to fame is that he is the son of Tong-woman Mary Anne MacLeod, born in 1912, making him eligible to pull on the blue shirt of Back FC. His mother emigrated across the Atlantic in 1930 ‑ the fourth of the Macleod sisters to do so ‑ and married Fred Trump in New York six years later, with the couple having four children. Mary Anne died in 2002, aged 90.

Mr Trump also has a footballing pedigree, having picked Leeds to play Manchester United while drawing the 1992 English League Cup quarter-final.

Mr Trump edged out Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has no recent Scottish ancestry nor footballing credentials, to lead the USA.

Reports that Back FC officials within the corridors of power in Upper Coll are looking to draft Trump in for next season’s EAF Cup have yet to be confirmed.
