The Comhairle have announced positive progress on the development of an interconnector to serve the Western Isles.
This comes after the third meeting of the Islands Delivery Forum took place in Edinburgh on January 15.
A statement from the Comhairle said that although a number of significant dependencies remain, the announcements and progress made at the meeting were viewed positively by all stakeholders.
The forum has been meeting to enable the Western and Northern isles to connect to the national grid, which would potentially allow more renewable energy to be sourced in the islands, whilst creating many jobs.
The current plans could see the construction of the interconnector commence in 2017.
