Pupils back in class after rat problem is solved

Children at Uig Primary School were back in their own classroom today (Thursday) after the school got the all-clear following a rat infestation in the building.

The problem came to light yesterday (November 30th) as the children had to attend a different school to continue their lessons, whilst pest control experts drafted in from the mainland, worked to rid them of the problem.

Uig school has around twelve pupils and one teacher.

A council spokesman confirmed: “There was an issue with rats at Uig School. Monday was a public holiday and the school was closed on Tuesday.

“Children were temporarily transferred to school on Bernera.

“We have finished the deep clean and the school reopened today (Thursday) for pupils and staff.”
