Around 180 people gave terrific applause to school pupils at a classical music performance organised in conjunction with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) and The Nicolson Institute Trust.
The concert was performed at the Nicolson Institute last Friday evening (September 18).
About 50 pupils from the Nicolson Institute were joined by three students from Stornoway Primary School. The pupils played a varied mix of classical music to a thrilled audience, showing the range of musical talent for which the islands are renowned.
Pieces played at the concert included Stravinsky, Bach, Beethoven, and Greek classical pieces. The audiences was in great applause after each performance.
Parent, Paddy Martin, said: “The kids really enjoyed themselves, I’ve seen how much they’ve grown in confidence as they got the chance to play in an orchestra - a chance they didn’t have before.
“This was a great way for the children to meet new friends also interested in music and to be part of a team.”
It is understood that the concert will return next year.
