Regeneration boost for Balivanich

The regeneration of Balivanich could come a step closer next week as the Comhairle looks set to adopt recommendations which could '˜lead to improvements in the economy, environment and infrastructure of the settlement'.

The recommendations, tabled for discussion at next week’s meeting of the Comhairle’s Sustainable Development Committee, and at a local community meeting in the area on September 20th, include plans for a new cultural hub, strengthening of the area’s commercial centre, a Monach Isles viewing deck, seafront improvements with beach access, landscaping and tree planting.

The report, completed by consultants Threesixty Architecture, sets out to establish ‘an achievable, clear vision for the development of Balivanich, which has the support of the community and key stakeholders and has the potential to impact positively on the whole area’.

Through the consultant’s report and local consultations, the Comhairle aimed to identify ‘a set of initial ‘quick-win’ projects’ for investment and to ensure that community interest in, and commitment to, the regeneration of Balivanich ‘will be sustained through to the point where investment for the medium and large-scale projects is secured.’
