The Western Isles community welcomed a little prince and princess of our own to the world on the same day as the country celebrated the birth of a future King!

Both babies were born in Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway. Little Mia Zheng made an appearance first at 4.10pm, just 14 minutes before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their new son - who is third in line to the British throne - into the world.

Mia weighed 8lb, 9oz and is a little sister to brother, Yu Jiey (13). Mum, Yan Xia Lin (known as Annice), and dad, Qiao Hua, were delighted to welcome their first daughter into the world on July 22, 2013, the same day as the Royal baby. The family is originally from China, but now lives in Stornoway.

The Duce family from Tarbert, meanwhile, got an extra special surprise when their bundle of joy arrived early to coincide with the Royal birthday! Mum, Kathleen, was due on July 27, but was scheduled to go into hospital for a Caesarean Section today (Tuesday). Little Finlay, however, had plans of his own, and arrived early at 10.54pm on Monday, July 22, 2013, weighing 7lb,7oz. Big sister Claire, who is three in September, is delighted to have a special little brother to play with!

“He didn’t seem to want to wait,” said Kathleen. “It’s a lovely surprise that he arrived on the same day as the Royal baby.”

Coincidentally, Finlay’s dad, Alasdair, got a taste of Royal life earlier this month, when he attended Buckingham Palace, on behalf of Marine Harvest, for the Coronation Festival. More than 200 suppliers to the Royal Family gathered at Buckingham Palace to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. Who could have predicted that his visit to the Palace would have been followed by the birth of his very own little prince!
