The Salvation Army is celebrating its 150 year Anniversary this year and a group from the Corps (church) in Stornoway are travelling to London to join in the international celebration (International Congress) taking place in the O2 London.
This group will attend the Commissioning and Ordination of Helen Froud who went to study Theology at The Salvation Army’s College in London from the Corps here in Stornoway.
Helen worked for CNES and ran Jannel Guest House. After her ordination Helen will be commissioned a Lieutenant and will serve as Commanding Officer (Minister) of The Salvation Army in Aberdeen.
After nine years of service as Commanding Officers (Ministers) of Stornoway Corps, Captains James and Morag Sabiston are moving to lead The Salvation Army in Wick.
The Captain’s and their four children have loved their time on the island and it is with heavy hearts that they leave.
Lieutenants Callum and Emma Newton will be coming to Stornoway to take up leadership of the Corps. They are looking forward to coming to serve God in this most beautiful part of the world. They will arrive after attending the International Congress in London.
In August the excitement continues with a visit to Stornoway of Commissioners Clive and Marianne Adams, The Territorial Leaders for the UK and Ireland.
Commissioner Clive Adams is the leader of The Salvation Army for the whole of the UK and Ireland. (He is equivalent to the Moderator of the Church of Scotland/ Free Church of Scotland or the Archbishop of Canterbury)
