Scanlon welcomes Isles roads investment

Mary Scanlon, Scottish Conservative MSP for the Highlands and Islands and Party Spokesperson for Tourism, has welcomed a response from Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar which indicates that the council intends to budget for a further spend of £500,000 on local roads.

Commenting Ms Scanlon said: “I contacted the council as I was surprised that figures obtained by the Scottish Conservatives found there had been no claims for compensation for damage caused by potholes in the Western Isles, unlike in every other local authority in Scotland. They have now clarified there has been a modest claim but what is really welcome in this response in the investment they have planned for their roads.

“We take great pride in welcoming tourists from other parts of Scotland, the UK and across the world to the Highlands and Islands and I am hopeful, if this investment is agreed in the council’s budget, the experience visitors have to the area will improve further.”
