The Annual General Meeting of the Western Isles Association took place on Thursday 5th September 2013, at the County Hotel, Stornoway Isle of Lewis.
The reports received on the various activities and functions of the Association highlighted a number of favourable indicators. A noticeable increase in membership along with considerable interest and support expressed by the general public at the policies and standpoints the Party is currently initiating.
Another encouraging report signified the improved financial position of the Association which indicated that reserves realised a marked increase during the year 2012, well over 100% on the previous year.
The visit in June 2013 of Murdo Fraser MSP was identified as one of the most encouraging and inspiring highlights of the year and the Association is looking forward to the visit of Jamie McGrigor MSP which is due to take place later on in the year.
The Association generally meet on a bi-monthly basis and the meetings usually take place in Stornoway.
The Association is now looking at the possibility of holding some meetings in Harris and in the southern isles. The programme for the ensuing year was considered and it comprises a number of social and fund raising events including a function at Christmas and a Burns Supper.
The Association reaffirmed its support to the Better Together Campaign and the efforts being made by the local committee of which the Chairman is a member.
