Scottish Parliament marks Gaelic Mòd's 125th anniversary

Kate Forbes MSP, who previously competed whilst a high school pupil in Dingwall, said she was pleased the Parliament was recognising “the important role the organisation has played in the study of Gaelic literature, history, music and art”.

As well as supporting the teaching, learning and use of the Gaelic language, independent economic assessments show that the Royal National Mòd contributes millions of pounds to the host area each year.

The MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch said: “Scottish culture is all the richer for An Comunn Gàidhealach’s efforts over the last century.

“I, like many children in Scotland, enjoyed competing in the local Mòd and then watching the real talent take to the stage at the national Mòd each year.

“The pursuit of excellence at the national Mòd has been a hall mark of the work of An Comunn Gàidhealach, and I wish them well for the next 125 years of Gaelic culture, tradition and language.”

An Comunn has also played a key role in the development of Gaelic resources at local and national levels to ensure the language has a strong Scottish presence.

This year’s Royal National Mòd will be hosted by the Western Isles, running from 14 to 22 October.
