BBC ALBA is back in the Highlands and Islands meeting some of the country’s finest home-cooks and bakers who share their favourite and most treasured recipes with Mairi MacRitchie.

In a new series of Fuine, Mairi picks up hints and tips from skilled home-cooks on how to prepare food for a variety of occasions and events.

From quick no-fuss weeknight suppers that will please every family member to special occasions such as birthday parties and drinks parties, Mairi meets cooks who are brimming with delicious recipe suggestions for any occasion.

A home-cook herself Mairi will also be hard at work in her own kitchen in North Uist. Inspired by the fabulous cooks and bakers she meets she’ll be preparing her own dishes that take the fuss out of entertaining and putting her own twist on those warming comfort food recipes for nights when only the familiar (and the filling!) will do.

In this programme Mairi is in Skye, Islay and Lewis gathering delicious recipes for a dinner party that are sure to impress all of your guests. Her home-cooks are to hand with suggestions that will make any tummy rumble - from a tender rack of lamb with a hazelnut and whisky sauce to a rich venison casserole with chocolate and juniper berries.

Of course no dinner party would be complete without something sweet and decadent to round things off. Mairi serves up a light and fluffy chocolate soufflé - a real show stopper – and meets a talented young cook who shows her how to make a sharp but sweet custard and raspberry tart that no guest could turn down.

Following on from A’ Fuine le… this series, produced by Caledonia TV for BBC ALBA, includes eleven programmes each focusing on cooking for different events or occasions. Complimented by beautiful scenic footage from numerous locations in Scotland’s Highlands and Islands this programme brings Scotland’s talented home-cooks to the fore and provides recipe suggestions for everyone to try at home.

Fuine / Cooking airs on Tuesday 7th April 8.30 – 9.00pm.
