SLIDESHOW - Queen’s Baton Relay through the Western Isles

The Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay ran the length of the Western Isles on Tuesday, July 8th, in the lead-up to this year’s Commonwealth Games.

It was the 25th day of the home stage of the relay, seeing the Baton traverse the length and breadth of Scotland before making its way to Glasgow for the opening ceremony on July 23rd, when The Queen’s message inside the Baton will be revealed.

The Baton arrived in the Western Isles by plane on Monday, being carried through Barra’s Traigh Mhòr bay by Katie Morag actress Cherry Campbell.

Just over 60 Batonbearers, all nominated for their contributions to their communities, then carried the Baton up through the Isles, with stops at Daliburgh in South Uist, Liniclate in Benbecula, Tarbert in Harris, the Butt of Lewis lighthouse and Stornoway where there was an evening celebration.
