Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan, this week met with a group of young people from Slovakia who were in the Western Isles to learn more about active citizenship and community enterprises.
Mr Allan commented: “Recently a group of young people from the Western Isles visited Slovakia to find out about the situation facing voluntary groups there and this week the Slovakian Active Citizens group returned the compliment with a visit to the Western Isles.
“I caught up with the group in Benbecula and we had a useful discussion about the options for community groups in both of our countries who are seeking to make like better and to provide employment opportunities.
“Both the Scots and the Slovakians have clearly benefited from their visits and have a lot to learn from each other. Although the Western Isles and Slovakia are very different – Slovakia doesn’t even have a coastline! – this is a very useful connection to have made between young people in two European countries, and one which I hope will bring benefits to communities in both areas.”
