South Harris SWRI hold first meeting

The first monthly meeting of the South Harris SWRI tiook place in Leverburgh school on 2nd. September. The President, Mrs. Morag MacKenzie welcomed the guest speaker, Miss Morag MacLeod, Scalpay.

Morag, who for many years had worked in the School of Scottish Studies gave a most interesting talk on the origins and development of the Gaelic language from its Indo-European roots, through the progression of the Celtic group of languages and to the present day. She was thanked by Billie Emsden.

Morag judged the competitions as follows:

Prettiest Plate : 1st. Linda Wood, 2nd. Norma green, 3rd. Liz Struthers.

Beetroot Jelly : 1st Billie Emsden, 2nd. Gillian Scott-Forrest, 3rd. Norma Green.

The Raffle was won by Pippa Stevens and hostesses for the evening were Christine Fleet, Liz Struthers and Katie Margaret Morrison.
