Stornoway Gazette Out Now!

This week’s Stornoway Gazette is dominated first of all by the threat of major travel disruption across the islands and beyond tomorrow (Friday).

At the time of going to press the strike action was expected to go ahead with no ferry services likely to operate on Friday. This has major implications for local events including the Barrathon which has a large number of participants travelling from the mainland.

Lewis Pipe Band are also due to travel to the mainland for the European Pipeband Championships and so they are keeping fingers crossed that they will make it across the Minch.

The Western Isles athletes are preparing to set off for the island games this Saturday and they are also affected by the industrial action as team members from Uist are supposed to travel up by ferry on Friday.

A contingency plan has now been worked out thanks to sponsors Scottish Salmon Company who are putting on one of their own boats to transport the team.

Keep logged on to the Stornoway Gazette website for updates on the strike action.

Also keep up to date online for all the action from the Island Games starting in Jersey this Saturday.
