Stornoway RNLI Open Day family fun

Stornoway RNLI are inviting everyone to come and enjoy the Lifeboat Station's annual Open Day and Family 5K fundraiser on July 16th.

Great fun was had by all in what proved to be a record-breaking Open Day last summer, with over 1,000 visiting the local Station and Lifeboat, and raising nearly £5,000 for Stornoway RNLI.

Open Day Saturday 2016 kicks off with the Stornoway RNLI Family 5K Fundraiser, organised by Steven Munro from Lewis Sports Centre, and sponsored by Stornoway Round Table.

This year it is the turn of local families who can take part in this great event, with first prize being awarded to the ‘Family with the Most Members’ to complete the 5K course.

The Family 5K will start from the Lifeboat Station at 11am, with registration open from 10am.

Participants can run, jog or walk, push a pram, or perhaps you would like to take the family dog round the 5K route.

The route will run along the pier and Bayhead, before turning off into the Castle Grounds across the YM Bridge, along towards Lews Castle and Cuddy Point, out to Sober Island and then back again.

Entry for the Family 5K Fundraiser is £5 for adults, £2 for secondary pupils and £1 for primary pupils. Please note, all primary kids must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

You can simply register on the day, or for more information or an entry form, please contact Steven Munro at Ionad Spors Leodhais on 01851 822785 or email [email protected]

Then at 12noon it’s time for the annual Stornoway RNLI Open Day, with teas and baking; live music from Rock Island Line; Stormy Stan; Stalls; Raffle; Bouncy Castle; a tour of Stornoway’s ‘Tom Sanderson’ RNLI Lifeboat and the town Station, as well as the hotly anticipated Stornoway Lifeboat vs. Emergency Services Tug of War.

Last year the Tug of War trophy was taken, for the first time, from the RNLI lifesavers by the Stornoway Coastguard team.

We hope that the Coastguards have kept the trophy safe and polished in their watch-room as the RNLI boys are readying themselves to ensure its return to the lifeboat shed!

And remember – what better way to take your Stornoway RNLI Selfie-Writing selfie photograph than at the Stornoway Lifeboat Open Day!

We look forward to seeing everyone there on Saturday, July 16th!
