Ten years of Western Isles Learning Shop

WESTERN ISLES MSP Alasdair Allan celebrated with past and present members of the Western Isles Learning Shop on Friday night (November 25) as they marked the tenth anniversary of the service which provides educational opportunities for people with a wide variety of needs.

Dr Allan said: “The event in the Caladh Hotel in Stornoway was a chance to mark not just the achievement of the Learning Shop itself, but the considerable achievements of the learners themselves.

“The learners who spoke at the event have clearly gained hugely in both confidence and skills as a result of their involvement and in many cases now are in a position to enter the world of work for the first time.”

He continued: “Both as the local MSP, and as the Minister with responsibility for this aspect of education, I am really proud of the impact which the Learning Shop has made on the lives of people from the Butt to Barra over the last ten years, in areas as varied as literacy, numeracy and learning English for speakers of other languages.”
