James Morrison, who works at the Tesco in Stornoway, and his wife Iona lost their son Seumas when he passed away in 2015 at just 54 days old.

To pay tribute to little Seumas, and to raise money for the organisations and charities involved in his care, a group of 25 Tesco colleagues from 21 stores across the north of Scotland took on a munro on Saturday 24 September.

The group tackled the 1046m high Ben Wyvis in Easter Ross, north-west of Dingwall – and have raised more than £16,000 so far, with sponsorship money still pouring in.

All money will go to the Glasgow Neonatal Unit based at the Queen Elizabeth University hospital in the city, and also to Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal (SiMBA) in the Western Isles.

Andrew Themis, store manager at the Tesco Inverness city centre store, organised the event and encouraged colleagues to get involved.

He said: “We were all devastated to hear about Seumas and just wanted to do something to support James and Iona and the organisations involved in his care.

“Everyone was really motivated to take part in his memory and was determined to raise a lot of money for charity.

“Colleagues of varied fitness levels and abilities took on the challenge. Quite a few of the group had never taken on a munro before but they did incredibly well.

“Despite the horrible weather, as a team, we achieved what we set out to accomplish.

“We’re very proud to be involved in raising money for the hospital and the memory box appeal and thrilled that we’ve generated such a fantastic amount of money.”

Stores across the north of Scotland have also been taking part in leg waxing, sponsored silences, raffles and other activities to raise funds.
